KBR has announced a new partnership with veteran-owned, Brisbane-based software business Cognition Analytica to help strengthen the cyber worthiness of the Australian Defence Force.

KBR has invested in the development of Cognition Analytica’s “Achilles”, a bespoke cyber terrain mapping tool that makes cyber worthiness visible.

Achilles enables rapid analysis of the threat environment and can be applied to any major defence platform or military operating system.

Nic Maan, KBR vice-president government solutions APAC, said: “Like air worthiness for aircraft and sea worthiness for ships, cyber worthiness enables Defence platforms, systems, and networks to continue operating effectively in contested cyber environments.”

Cyber terrain maps assist in better understanding and safeguarding against cyber threats to prevent threats to critical systems and capabilities.

“Achilles combined with KBR’s existing cyber capabilities means that we can not only better identify threats but also provide rapid, robust, and cost-effective advice to mitigate threats and maintain the integrity of the platform,” Maan added.

James Alexander, managing director of Cognition Analytica, said, “The Achilles platform’s ability to map and 3D model interconnected digital systems against protective cyber frameworks and standards is a pivotal game changer in visualising and maintaining cyber worthiness. Achilles not only renders complex and critical systems in 3D, its dash-boarded functionality enables rapid command decision making, ensuring the cyber worthiness and digital integrity of any Defence asset or platform is maintained.”

Achilles complements KBR’s extensive cyber capabilities which include modelling, strategic advice and analysis of supply-chain security, critical asset protection, and all-hazard risk reduction.

Achilles was recently demonstrated to the Royal Australian Navy with KBR team members spending several days on board a warship.
