Assistant Minister for Defence and Assistant Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Thistlethwaite has announced an $11.2 million worth of critical infrastructure investments to upgrade Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane.

Assistant Minister for Defence and Assistant Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Thistlethwaite has announced an $11.2 million worth of critical infrastructure investments to upgrade Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane.

As part of the $11.2 million investment, upgrades to Gallipoli Barracks include live-in accommodation refurbishments, Army-directed maintenance works, and construction of a new Joint Operations Room facility.

This will ensure that Gallipoli Barracks, which is one of Australia’s largest military bases and the headquarters of the 7th Brigade, is “fit for purpose” to support the Australian Army’s expanded mission.

Assistant Minister Thistlethwaite said, “These projects, to be delivered by local businesses, will create opportunities in the trades and construction industries and deliver increased job opportunities in Brisbane.”

Works have already begun and will create significant opportunities for local trades, construction, and other businesses, including promoting the participation of Indigenous companies.

“The Albanese government recognises that our Defence sites must be equipped to meet operational and capability requirements, now and in the future," Assistant Minister Thistlethwaite added.

In addition to the 7th Brigade, Gallipoli Barracks is also home to elements of the 11th Brigade and also serves as the headquarters for the 1st Division and the 16th Aviation Brigade. The units based at Enoggera include armoured, artillery, engineer, signals, infantry, medical, and other combat service support units.
