Boeing Defense, Space & Security has announced a new partnership with US data and software company Palantir Technologies to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence across its global defence factories and programs, including classified projects.

The collaboration, revealed at the Air, Space & Cyber Conference in the United States, will see Boeing Defence leverage Palantir’s Foundry platform to unify data from complex and disparate systems under a single streamlined interface.

The platform, which is already in use across several defence and government organisations, uses AI to improve visibility, coordination and speed across large-scale industrial operations.

Boeing Defense, which operates more than a dozen major production lines manufacturing military aircraft, helicopters, spacecraft, missiles and other weapons systems, said the initiative would help standardise data analytics and insights across its widespread network of facilities.

“Palantir is on the cutting edge when it comes to leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate getting critical products, services and capabilities into the hands of military operators,” said Steve Parker, chief executive of Boeing Defense, Space & Security.

Parker added, “This collaboration is a natural fit that brings together two great companies with a common mission: supporting uniformed personnel in protecting freedom around the world.”

Beyond factory integration, Palantir has also been engaged to provide AI expertise for a number of undisclosed classified and proprietary programs, focused on delivering advanced capabilities for sensitive military missions.

Mike Gallagher, Palantir’s head of defence, said the partnership would strengthen the delivery of advanced technology to US and allied forces.

“Palantir and Boeing Defense, Space & Security are committed to delivering dominant capabilities to the warfighter to deter conflict and defend the homeland. This partnership will turbocharge production and innovation, allowing Boeing and Palantir to bring cutting-edge technology to current and next-generation defence programs. America’s enemies aren’t slowing down and neither can we,” Gallagher said.

The tie-up reflects a broader trend in the US defence sector to integrate AI and digital engineering into both manufacturing and operational domains, as militaries prepare for competition against technologically advanced adversaries.

Boeing, one of the world’s largest aerospace companies and the top US exporter, develops and services commercial aircraft, defence products and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries.

The company employs tens of thousands of staff globally and supports a wide supplier network, including a significant footprint in Australia where it provides sustainment, systems integration and advanced research and development for the Australian Defence Force.
