Australian firm APC Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Forces Broadcasting Service to collaborate on advanced broadcast, media and welfare technology solutions for the defence and mining sectors across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
The British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), the UK-based media organisation and military charity, said the agreement reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing communication and welfare capabilities for deployed personnel across the defence and mining sector, and will “further our ambitions to deliver our innovative media and welfare technology”, according to Nick Beer, BFBS director of development and strategy.
“From my initial meeting with the APC Technology team in London and our subsequent discussions at DSEI, I have gained complete confidence in their ability, experience and commitment to deliver what we need as a partner,” Beer said.
Under the new agreement, BFBS and APC will work together to deliver BFBS’ MiPlayer and MiPlayer Edge systems that allow secure, offline-capable content delivery, designed to provide entertainment, training and wellbeing media in remote or disconnected environments.
The partnership supports several key national defence initiatives, aligning with the Australian Defence Digital Strategy Roadmap 2024, the Next Generation Navy initiative, and the Defence and Veteran Family Wellbeing Strategy 2025–2030. It also complements the Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety Program and Resource Minds, which focus on improving mental health in rural and remote workplaces.
“We are proud to work alongside BFBS to deliver technology that enhances wellbeing and connectedness across Defence and mining communities,” said Craig Williams, managing director at APC.
“This collaboration strengthens Australia’s sovereign capability in digital welfare and supports the wellbeing priorities of our national workforce strategies.”
BFBS’ MiPlayer is currently being used with the UK Ministry of Defence and allied forces, with Australia’s adoption of the technology aiming to increase digital inclusion across remote and high intensity environments to support mental health and wellbeing in an accessible way.
“It’s heartening to see global collaboration that can be harnessed locally for such a meaningful purpose,” said South Australian Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, and Veterans’ Affairs Joe Szakacs.
