Babcock has delivered two new helicopters to the Australian Border Force to aid in the enhancement of surveillance and logistics activities.

Babcock Australasia CEO Andrew Cridland said on the delivery: “Babcock has been an integral and trusted provider to the ABF since 1995, supporting their work to keep our nation safe and secure.

“As a world-leading defence and aviation company, Babcock uniquely leverages our proven and trusted in-house capability to support complex engineering programs around the world.

Specialist engineers from Babcock’s design and completions (D&C) team are set to provide a range of transformative enhancements and upgrades to the Airbus H145 helicopters, including improving tactical and sensor systems and increasing surveillance capabilities.

“These state-of-the-art aircraft upgrades by Babcock’s UK team will bring the world’s highest surveillance capabilities to Australia for the first time,” Cridland said.

This comes as a result of a $250 million contract with the ABF to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.

The helicopters are expected to be in service in the middle to latter half of 2026, with Babcock committing to recruiting 16 new staff composed of pilots, engineers and surveillance crews.

Babcock’s D&C teams has been modifying and upgrading aircraft globally since 2009 and have a specialist focus integrating advanced systems for complex operations.
