Australia and the United States have come together to strengthen defence logistics response and efforts to improve interoperability.

Royal Australian Air Force and United States Air Force personnel together worked on bilateral connections at the Defence Establishment Fairbairn in Canberra.

As members of the Air Senior National Representatives Logistics Working Group, the United States and Australia have continued to implement a range of efforts seeking to increase collaboration on regional issues in command and support measures.

Teaming up on improving command and control, maintenance and upkeep, munitions networks and aerial defence exercises, the two air forces are continuing the multinational efforts to improve collaboration and combined support.

“Logistics interoperability is one of the ways the RAAF is thinking about building fighting depth with our key ally, the United States Air Force,” RAAF Air Commodore Natasia Pulford said.

“This will enable us to seamlessly operate as a combined air domain in an integrated campaign.

“We recognise the importance of developing the combined air domain logistics concept before crisis or conflict eventuates to reduce the friction involved when operating at scale.”

The Working Group, which typically convenes at a range of bilateral meetings and conferences, has expanded from initial conversations on forming exercises that meet both Air Forces’ needs, to focusing on “broader strategic logistics challenges”.

USAF Major General Elizabeth Arledge said that together, Australia and the US are able to deliver “credible, combined deterrence” when logistics is strengthened.

“Sub-working groups meet monthly to track progress, surface constraints and elevate issues for resolution.

“The work we’re doing will enable us to operate in more places, more often, for a protracted period of time,” AIRCDRE Pulford said.
