Australian tech company Electro Optic Systems has revealed it is co-operating with unmanned warfare systems developer Milrem Robotics to introduce lightweight 30mm lethality to the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) market.
The two companies showcased this capability at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The system features a THeMIS UGV fitted with the R400S-Mk2-HD (dual) remote weapon system mounting 30mm ATK M230 LF cannon and a coaxial 7.62mm general-purpose machine gun.
An optional anti-tank guided missile is also available to add onto the remotely-operated system, which enhances the firepower of a land force as well as improving situational awareness thanks to advanced sensors and increased stand-off distance.
”Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS is a UGV with outstanding terrain navigating performance, and with the extremely well stabilised EOS R400S-MK2-HD (dual) remote weapon system in combination, we have created a large calibre warfare system that can efficiently provide both superior fire support for dismounted troops and be used as a robotic weaponised unit on its own,” explained Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics.
“Due to the system’s light weight and size, our joint product can be rapidly deployed with mounted and/or dismounted units, requiring less logistical effort."
The system is the first integration project for the two companies, and is also the largest calibre cannon fitted to the THeMIS platform.

The two companies are "planning to test fire the system as soon as possible".
