Australian company NIOA has announced it is now a member of SAFEX International, a non-profit organisation focusing on the elimination of harmful effects of explosives on people, property and the planet.

Australian company NIOA has announced it is now a member of SAFEX International, a non-profit organisation focusing on the elimination of harmful effects of explosives on people, property and the planet.

Established in 1954 in Switzerland, SAFEX International is a voluntary association of manufacturers of explosives worldwide, with member organisations declaring "ts willingness to share any experiences and in particular information about explosives incidents in order to promote SAFEX’s aim".

SAFEX International said that encouraging its members to learn from each other's experiences allows insight into the design, development, manufacture, storage, distribution, use and disposal/recycling of explosives products.

"We are delighted to be a member of SAFEX International," a release from NIOA said.

"The important contribution to safety, health and security of explosives made by SAFEX International is recognised by NIOA and we are looking forward to contributing as members."

SAFEX believes "the responsible and professional use of explosives is a power for good". Its ability to unlock mineral wealth and facilitate the development of infrastructure is generally appreciated. However, SAFEX also recognises the harm an unplanned explosives event can do to people, property and the environment.
