Senator Marise Payne’s tenure as acting Defence Minister has been extended as a result of a prolonged period of medical leave for Linda Reynolds.
Late last month, the federal government announced that Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds would take a period of medical leave in response to advice from her cardiologist relating to a pre-existing medical condition.
The minister had also been admitted to hospital for medical treatment.
Minister Reynolds was expected to return to her ministerial duties this month, however, her leave has now been extended to 2 April upon new medical advice.
Accordingly, Foreign Minister Marise Payne will continue serving as acting Defence Minister until Minister Reynolds returns.
