Governor-General, Chief of Defence Force show support veteran’s charity

Senior government and Defence officials have attend an annual charity event aimed at raising funds for the veteran community.

Over 400 guests from across the defence community have attend Soldier On’s 2021 National Gala Ball, sponsored by Synergy Group Australia.

The event, which was held in Canberra, aims to raise money in support of serving and ex-serving veterans and their families.

Guests included Governor-General David Hurley and the Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus Campbell.

The Australian Military Wives Choir and the Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon also participated in the event, delivering musical performances.

The funds are expected to support Soldier On’s initiatives to build resilience, create and expand meaningful connections with family, community and employers through its health and wellbeing services, employment programs, learning opportunities and participation activities.

Earlier this month, Soldier On officially kicked off its ‘March On Challenge’, a virtual walking challenge, which encourages Australians to walk 96 kilometres — the length of Kokoda — during the month of March.

The challenge pays tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers in Kokoda during World War II, highlighting the importance of helping serving and ex-serving veterans of today.

Every dollar raised as part of the March On challenge is set to go directly to the services that Soldier On provides to current and ex-service personnel and their families to help prevent veteran suicide.
