The federal government has rolled out a program aimed at encouraging young Australians to pursue a career in the defence industry.
The second Defence Industry Skilling and Workforce Summit, held virtually, has officially commenced.
This year’s summit particularly focuses on educating young Australians about the benefits of a career in the defence industry, as part of a broader effort to bolster local capability.
Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said the government aimed to capitalise on the progress made towards developing a highly-trained and specialised defence industry workforce to meet future Defence needs.
“The summit will provide an opportunity for stakeholders from industry, government and education sectors to workshop and put forward ideas on how we can enhance young people’s participation in defence industry,” Minister Price said.
“To effectively address skilling and workforce challenges, it is crucial that we attract young people to this growing sector. Organisations that recognise the importance of investing in young people early in their career – filling a pipeline with talent – will be strongly positioned to prosper in the future.
“I especially encourage the younger industry participants to be a part of this vital conversation and register for the summit today.”
The workshop builds on the success of the first Skilling and Workforce Summit held in Perth in November 2019.
