EOS tests T2000 turret at NSW range

The company has put its turret to the test during a live-fire exercise at a private range.

The company has put its turret to the test during a live-fire exercise at a private range.

The Lightforce Group Klondyke Range Complex in NSW has hosted the live-fire testing of EOS Defence Systems’ (EOS) T2000 turret, with the 30x173mm Mk44S cannon fired for the first time on a private range.

“We could not have done it without our key Australian partners; Australian companies investing in Australian infrastructure and Australian capability to build a sovereign ecosystem that can support the development of any direct fire weapon capability,” Grant Sanderson, CEO EOS Defence Systems (Global), said.

Lightforce Group, which has worked with EOS for a number of years, has further developed its range area and infrastructure, gained approval for weapons traces up to and including 120mm calibre, and has ADF-standard ammunition storage facilities.

The exercise formed part of EOS’ planned work with NIOA and RAIDER Targetry, announced at Land Forces 2021.

NIOA was tasked with handling ammunition ordering, international freight, managing federal and state regulatory requirements, local storage and the final delivery to the team at the range.

The firm is currently in the process of establishing a 30x173mm ammunition manufacturing capability in Australia, expected to further support ongoing testing.

Meanwhile, RAIDER Targetry’s Mobile Moving Target System (MMTS) has supported EOS’ turret and remote weapon system development program.

MMTS was developed with the support of the Australian Army via an Army Innovation Day pitch and does not require any fixed infrastructure during target engagement.

“EOS has made a significant commitment in time and money to generate this sovereign ecosystem, and it’s great to see our privately funded T2000 turret and test activity delivering sovereign capability,” Sanderson added.

The T2000 is among several systems undergoing testing at Klondyke Range Complex, with other platforms including the 30x173 R800 remote weapon station (RWS) and variants of the R400 RWS firing the M230LF 30x113 cannon.
