A range of historic RAAF aircraft will take part in a 100-year tradition to help conclude Centenary celebrations.
This Sunday (20 March 2022), the Royal Australian Air Force is set to support the ‘Serpentine Air Race’ — a 100-year tradition, which commenced with the First Official Air Race in 1922.
This year’s display is expected to feature Roulettes aerobatic team and historic RAAF aircraft, including a No 100 Squadron DH.82A Tiger Moth, a CA-25 Winjeel, Pilatus PC-21 aircraft and the Air Force Balloon.
Director-General of Air Force 2021, Air Commodore Andrew Elfverson said the Serpentine Air Show would be one of the last public events of the Air Force Centenary (Air Force 2021).
“Air Force’s support to the Serpentine air race is intended to highlight the service and sacrifice of generations of Air Force members and demonstrate how the Air Force is continuing to evolve into the next century,” he said.
“We’re proud to be supporting this historic aviation event and to be working with so many aircraft enthusiasts and pilots.”
The race will be followed by the dedication of a new memorial at Point Cook on 30 March, which is set to cap off the Centenary program.
The Centenary has honoured the 350,000 members who served with the Air Force over the past 100 years, while also remembering the 11,191 Australians who gave their lives for the country.
