NIOA appoints general manager, NZ

The munitions firm has announced the replacement for the current head of its New Zealand operations.

The munitions firm has announced the replacement for the current head of its New Zealand operations.

NIOA has named Fraser Winskill as its new general manager, New Zealand, effective from 1 November.

Winskill, who has served as NIOA’s regional business manager in New Zealand since May 2021, is set to replace outgoing GM, Garry Powell.

Powell, who served as director of Auckland-based firearms and ammunition company Sportways Distributors, is expected to assume an advisory role to support NIOA’s transition in the New Zealand market.

“We thank Garry for his service and leadership since Sportways became part of the NIOA family earlier this year,” NIOA Group CEO Robert Nioa said.

“His experience has been vital to this point in our journey, and we are now looking forward to what Fraser will bring to NIOA in New Zealand.”

Nioa went on to note Winskill’s experience in the New Zealand market.

“Fraser’s background in the NZDF combined with his leadership capabilities, commercial knowledge and understanding of the industry through a lifelong passion for hunting and sporting shooting mean he has the expertise to carry us into the future,” he said.

Winskill, an 18-year NZ Army veteran, welcomed the opportunity to lead NIOA growth strategy in New Zealand.

“This is a fantastic opportunity and I’m looking forward to working with our team to deliver outstanding service and the best products for our many valued customers,” Winskill said.

Winskill's appointment follows NIOA’s acquisition of a 100 per cent stake in Sportways Distributors, which aims to further strengthen the company's presence in New Zealand.

NIOA represents a number of NZ-based firearms and ammo manufacturers, including Savage, Federal, Remington Arms, SureFire suppressors and Lewis Machine Tool.
