Dubbed Team Bower, the companies have agreed to partner on the delivery of fleet sustainment under Regional Maintenance Provider East and beyond.

Under Plan Galileo, Regional Maintenance Provider East is designed to deliver fleet maintenance services on Australia’s east coast. The agreement between Babcock and Atlantic & Peninsula (A&P) for the bid was formalised on the 27th of September.
The announcement follows an agreement earlier in the year where both companies committed to partner on upcoming naval sustainment contracts. The companies have confirmed that they hope to collaborate on additional future programs.
Andy Davis, managing director at Babcock, explained that Team Bower’s “one lanyard” approach will be affordable and benefit both Defence and the business ecosystem.
“Team Bower’s solution will deliver a superior and highly competitive solution that has lower transition risks and allows the team to grow sovereign capability. Keeping RAN ships ready to fight and win at sea and deploying their critical capability where it is needed,” Davis said.
“The Team Bower identity has multiple elements that when combined, reflect our services to the Commonwealth, teaming and values. The stockless bower anchor is perhaps the most iconic of maritime symbols with the port and starboard anchors reflecting the partnership of our two companies working together to deliver for the Commonwealth and industry.
“The regional importance of the services is also reflected in the satin bowerbird that is endemic to eastern Australia. Satin bowerbirds are renowned for the care with which they create and maintain their bowers. They are emblematic of our commitment to stewarding sovereign sustainment capability at the Garden Island Defence Precinct,” Davis continued.
The formalised agreement between the two companies follows their recent industry day, engaging nearly 300 current and potential suppliers.
“Babcock and A&P’s proven track record and experience will enable Australia to continue the development of an in-country supply chain and defence capabilities, which will ultimately de-risk future deployments of Navy assets in the region and underpin the availability of the Royal Australian Naval fleet,” David McGinley, chief executive officer of Atlantic and Peninsula Marine Services, said.
