South Australian company Codan Radio Communications has announced that its Sentry-H High Frequency Radio units have achieved Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) certification.
JITC certification verifies interoperability for all products used by the US Department of Defense (DoD) and their partner networks. The certification also confirms that Sentry-H is qualified as meeting the Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) requirements of Military Standard MIL-STD-188-141B, Performance and Interoperability Standards for Medium and High Frequency (HF) Radio Systems.
“The Sentry-H clearly meets interoperability criteria with other HF radios according to the DoD standard,” Codan VP of business development and government relations Gene McConville said.
“This certification demonstrates Codan’s continued investment in defence applications to support interoperability among militaries operating in unique and challenging environments.”
The Sentry-H radio system is advertised as "the military industry's first dedicated base and mobile radio system that delivers 150W of RF power without the added cost, weight and complexity typically found with multirole Manpack radio design". The units also have an in-built power amplifier that provides full-duty cycle performance across the complete HF band for all supported modes.
JITC certification also establishes a common waveform for ALE operations, which further supports multinational, coalition and partnership peacekeeping operations. The certification also guarantees interoperability between Codan and other compliant HF radio suppliers.
The purpose of JITC is to provide risk-based test, evaluation and certification services, tools and environments to ensure joint warfighting IT capabilities are interoperable and support mission needs.
A feature of ALE is the rapid selection of best available frequencies for a radio operator, quickly alerting operators on each end to commence immediate communications. It also automatically scans predefined channels to choose the best available channel.
