The Commonwealth has announced that NIOA has been selected as a preferred respondent in the Department of Defence’s LAND 159/LAND 4108 Lethality Program request for proposal.

The programs, which see small arms and direct fire support weapons replacements, includes:

  • Hand-to-hand fighting weapon system
  • Grenades
  • Personal defence weapons (e.g. pistol)
  • Assault rifles
  • Shotguns
  • Machine guns: Light, medium, heavy
  • Short-range DFSW
  • Medium-range DFSW
  • Long-range DFSW
  • Sniper weapons: Medium range, long range, anti-material
  • Light weight mortar
  • Light weight automatic grenade launcher
  • Command detonated munitions
  • Remote weapon systems
  • Loitering munitions
  • Less than lethal capability
  • Method of entry capability

"NIOA welcomes the Commonwealth’s announcement that it has been selected as a preferred respondent in the Department of Defence’s LAND 159/LAND 4108 Lethality Program request for proposal," a release from the company said.

"NIOA, a 100 per cent Australian prime contractor, welcomes the opportunity to tender for the managing contractor role to work with our Australian and international industry partners to deliver a lethality enhancement step change for the Australian warfighter."

The programs will also see up to 21 weapon systems that require integration of:

  • Soldier combat system
  • Battle management system
  • Combined arms fighting system vehicles
  • Allies and coalition partners
  • Training and target systems
  • Live firing
  • Simulation
  • Defence and industry support chain.
