Major General (Ret’d) Paul McLachlan steps up to MD role for Elbit Systems Australia

Major General (Ret’d) Paul McLachlan, AO, CSC, has been appointed as the new managing director of Elbit Systems of Australia (ELSA), a high-tech company specialising in digital command and control systems, training and support to the Australian Defence Force.

Major General (Ret’d) Paul McLachlan, AO, CSC, has been appointed as the new managing director of Elbit Systems of Australia (ELSA), a high-tech company specialising in digital command and control systems, training and support to the Australian Defence Force.

On Tuesday, ELSA announced that McLachlan had taken on the new role, effective as of 10 July, putting him in charge of over 250 staff at offices in Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane.

“I am honoured to become the next managing director for Elbit Systems of Australia,” said McLachlan. “With the team, I am looking forward to continuing the diversification of our business and delivering state of the art digitised command and control capability to the Australian Army.”

McLachlan is well-placed to capitalise on an extensive background in digital transformation, which has seen him lead Army contingents in various roles – including, for over seven years, as Head Land Systems Defence Materiel Organisation and as Commander 1st Division.

McLachlan assumes the post having spent the past year as an Executive Director at ELSA, where he has been deeply involved in the company’s strategic direction and business operations. He replaces the outgoing Dan Webster, who is stepping down after having led the company for the past seven years.

Webster will maintain close links with ELSA as he transitions to become a non-executive director.

ELSA is a subsidiary of Israel-based Elbit Systems.

The company and subsidiaries focus on a number of aerospace, land, and naval systems applications: including communications, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, unmanned aircraft systems, electro-optic space systems, EW suites, signal intelligence systems, data links and communications systems, radios and cyber-based systems and munitions.
