The Australian Defence Export Office (ADEO), in partnership with Marketing Entourage, has developed a five-week online pitch training course to support Australian defence industry businesses looking to better promote their capabilities.

The Australian Defence Export Office (ADEO), in partnership with Marketing Entourage, has developed a five-week online pitch training course to support Australian defence industry businesses looking to better promote their capabilities.

The ADEO, in partnership with Marketing Entourage, have created a pitch training program specifically for businesses looking to export defence and dual-use goods and services. This training is fully subsidised for Australian defence industry businesses.

The Pitch Training Program is specifically designed to improve the chances of export success for Australian defence industry businesses engaging with foreign military and seeking opportunities in international supply chains.

The training will be delivered through a series of webinars, online modules and one-to-one pitch practice sessions. Businesses will have access to one-on-one mentoring to help refine and perfect their pitch, including the opportunity to have their pitch reviewed by highly experienced Defence and prime acquisition personnel.

Learn the key components of a great pitch through this marketing training:

  • Understand the key components of a great pitch and get ‘buy in’ to what you’re doing;
  • Understand how to adjust your pitch for foreign militaries and international defence businesses, including primes; 
  • Get better at delivering your pitch in all circumstances, especially online;
  • Learn how to tailor your messages to help you stand out from the crowd; 
  • Understand how to create a memorable brand; and
  • Build confidence in delivering a great pitch with thorough preparation. 

Australian defence industry businesses are encouraged to apply by registering their interest at the link below. Multiple people from the same business can be included as a single application. Limited spaces are available on each cohort and the ADEO will prioritise businesses who have recently participated in an industry delegation with Team Defence Australia.

It will take around two to four hours per week to complete the course. Businesses can have multiple staff complete the course together under one registration. The course is available to all Australian defence industry businesses and is fully subsidised by the ADEO.

There will be several cohorts across the 2020-21 financial year, commencing 7 September 2020, with around 20-30 companies in each.

The ADEO was established in April 2018 as a key initiative of the 2018 Defence Export Strategy. The ADEO is the focal point for co-ordinating whole-of-government defence export support for Australian defence industry, to ensure it can meet Australia’s defence capability needs now and into the future.

The ADEO sits within Defence Industry Policy Division and comprises three teams:

  • Team Defence Australia provides export-ready companies with access to new or existing markets and international supply chains through attendance at international trade shows.
  • Australian Military Sales (AMS) plans and executes the international government-to-government transfer of Australian Defence Organisation materiel, Australian-origin sensitive technology in addition to products and services of Australian defence industry. AMS also publishes the Australian Defence Sales Catalogue, which provides information on Australian Defence Force equipment and defence industry products and services for sale to foreign government customers.
  • Policy and Engagement is responsible for managing high-level international and domestic advocacy by ministers and the Australian defence export advocate in support of Australian defence industry exports. They also provide guidance on access to financial support and manage the ADEO’s market intelligence function, which helps government and industry to better plan and target their future export activities.

The ADEO tailors its assistance to Australian companies on a case-by-case basis, and endeavours to provide a targeted level of support across all stages of a company’s export journey.

The ADEO works closely with an international network of defence attachés and Austrade business development managers in key markets (to date: the US, UK, Germany, Indonesia and Japan).

The ADEO also collaborates with a range of Australian government agencies including Austrade, Export Finance Australia, the Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC), and state and territory governments, to provide support to Australian defence industry exports.

The Defence Export Controls Branch remains separate to the ADEO. The ADEO and the Defence Export Controls Branch work closely to ensure that Australia’s export controls requirements are met and awareness of potential export controls is understood by Australian defence industry.
