Nova Systems welcomes new wave of graduates

The engineering services provider has welcomed a record-high number of students to its 2021 graduate program.

The engineering services provider has welcomed a record-high number of students to its 2021 graduate program.

A new cohort of 22 starters have been welcomed to Nova Systems’ Graduates Development Program – the highest intake of graduates in the program’s history.

The group, which is primarily made up of engineering and logistics graduates, is expected to work on a range of Defence projects and emerging technology capabilities, including test and evaluation (T&E), certification, systems assurance, intelligence and surveillance.

Jim McDowell, Nova Group CEO, said the new recruits (11 men and 11 women), bring the total graduates the firm has onboard since its establishment in 2016 to 76.

“Our graduate program demonstrates our clear commitment to grow our local talent pool by establishing and developing the continuous workforce pipeline required to meet Australia’s future Defence and national security needs,” McDowell said.

“Our people-first culture, continuous learning options and supportive environment are attractive to graduates.

“The interest and high calibre of applicants we receive each year rivals some of the biggest players in the industry.”

Of the 22 graduates, eight will be based in Canberra, seven in Melbourne, three in Adelaide, and two in both Brisbane and Sydney.

This is in addition to Nova’s work experience program, in which up to 16 engineering students are selected each year to complete a 12-week program.

This year’s program took place in mid-February, with students participating in projects in digital engineering, autonomous ground vehicles, unmanned systems safety and weapons engineering.

According to Nova, 30 per cent of students from its work experience program go on to enter the graduate program.

The recruitment process for the 2022 graduate program is scheduled to commence later this month, with Nova opening the program to students from other professions in addition to engineering.
