The Defence Industry Secondment Program began this week, providing Defence and Defence public service members up-to six weeks on exchange at a defence industry SME.

The new Defence Industry Secondment Program commenced this week, which seeks to provide Defence members with on-the-job experience within small and medium sized enterprises within the defence industry. It is hoped that the training learned throughout the program will broaden the Defence Force’s talent pool.

The exchange will last for six weeks for Australian Defence Force and Defence public service members throughout the first half of 2021.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price outlined that the opportunity will reinforce the ties between the Australian Defence Force and the nation’s sovereign defence industry.

“Day-in, day-out I am knocking down the barriers faced by Australian businesses in the Defence market and this program is another example of how we are doing this,” Minister Price said.

“I want to see our businesses thrive, and by getting Defence staff into Australian businesses right around the country, in what will be a truly national program, we can build the commercial skills of Defence and create a stronger industry.

“These secondments will help Defence understand the pressures Australian businesses face on a daily basis and will create long-term change for the way Defence and industry work together to deliver essential capability for our ADF.

“This program is all about helping local Australian companies to improve their working partnerships with Defence under the Morrison government’s $270 billion investment in defence capability.”

Participants in the program have been invited to participate by submitting an expression of interest.

Those selected will be scored on skillsets, location and prior courses such as the Defence Industry Studies Course.
