EOS appoints new board director under renewal strategy

The ASX-listed defence and space company has announced the appointment of a new independent director.

The ASX-listed defence and space company has announced the appointment of a new independent director.

Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has named Deena Shiff as an independent non-executive director, effective from 7 December 2021.

The appointment, which forms part of the board’s renewal process, aims to strengthen the company's corporate governance oversight.

Shiff has held a number of senior executive roles throughout her career, including a stint as Tesltra’s group managing director.

The new non-executive director has also led Telstra’s wholesale division, established and led Telstra Business, and established Telstra Ventures.

Shiff has also held government roles, including as director of Infrastructure Australia.

She is currently the chair of the supervisory board of Marley Spoon AG and the government’s Australian Broadband Advisory Council and is on the boards of Appen Ltd and Pro Medicus Ltd and Opera Australia.

This appointment comes just a week after EOS subsidiary EOS Defence Systems named Matthew Jones as the inaugural CEO to lead its Australian division.

Jones will be responsible for spearheading the company’s growth in the region, as it looks to establish itself as an Australian prime contractor.

The new appointee joined EOS Defence Systems Australia in May 2020, serving as general manager, land C4I.

His work has included leading the company’s C4 EDGE Australian industry collaboration and overseeing a product development program for EOS’ new Titanis Counter UAS (C-UAS) system.

Jones is a veteran of the sector, serving for 30 years across military, Defence and defence industry in senior leadership roles, which include senior capability analysis, technical and program management; and working in operational and high security environments.

The incoming CEO holds experience in national security, systems integration, strategy, human resource management, training and policy development.
