Swartz Barracks unveils new health facility

Defence has officially opened a new health centre at the Queensland-based Army barracks.

Defence has officially opened a new health centre at the Queensland-based Army barracks.

Minister for Defence Peter Dutton has resided over the official unveiling of a newly redeveloped health facility at Swartz Barracks in Oakley, Queensland.

The new state-of-the-art purpose-built facility is designed to bolster access to health care for ADF members posted in and around the site.

Services include integrated primary health care services, dental services, mental health care, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and pharmacy.

The site can house approximately 30 staff, including military personnel, public servants and contracted health professionals.

“This centre represents an $18 million investment, providing access to world-class care to both on-base and visiting ADF members, and to visiting international military personnel,” Minister Dutton said.

The redevelopment forms part of the Commonwealth government’s $200 million investment in new and upgraded health facilities at 13 priority sites under the Joint Health Command Garrison Health Facilities Upgrade Project.

Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton MP, welcomed the opening of the facility, noting the impact on the broader community.

“We appreciate the important role facilities like Swartz Barracks play in Oakey, which is why our government is making significant investment and delivering support for our hardworking members of the ADF here on the Toowoomba Region,” Hamilton said.
