Defence Connect is calling on lawyers in the defence industry to raise their hand and gain recognition at the Corporate Counsel Awards 2022.
The sixth annual Corporate Counsel Awards, hosted by Defence Connect’s sister brand Lawyers Weekly, recognises the successes of Australia’s top-performing in-house professionals at a national level, including GCs/CLOs, legal counsel, company secretaries, and law departments.
The legal profession can nominate themselves across 35 categories, including Defence Lawyer of the Year, which recognises an in-house lawyer who best services the unique requirements of an organisation operating in the defence industry.
It includes in-house lawyers who work in all types of organisations related to the defence industry, including businesses, agencies, departments and institutions involved in defence procurement and the delivery of defence capabilities.
The award is open to all in-house lawyers who have been employed by a defence organisation that has been active for at least two full financial years and is registered in Australia.
To be eligible for this award, the candidate must have serviced the needs of their company in the 12 months from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021.
Similarly, Defence Connect and Lawyers Weekly are also encouraging legal teams that have serviced the unique requirements of their organisation in the defence industry to lodge submissions for the awards.
This could include in-house legal teams in all sorts of organisations relating to the defence industry, including businesses, agencies, departments and institutions.
Nominees will be judged on the quality of their responses, specifically around defining the importance of their work for their organisation that has provided defence services to Australia, and how this has added value to the defence industry and Australia at large.
Lawyers would also be required to outline how their role has benefited the organisation and how they have displayed leadership and initiative over the last financial year, while teams will have to demonstrate how they took initiative during matters completed over the financial year and combated any challenges that arose during this period.
The Corporate Counsel Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the hard work of law departments, individual professionals, and those influencing the profession and driving it forward.
