It would include supply of NASAMS, an AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel Radar, fire distribution centre, canister launchers, secure communications, GPS receivers, code loaders, tools, spare parts and support equipment.

“Ukraine has an urgent need to increase its capabilities to defend against Russian missile strikes and aircraft. Acquiring and effectively deploying this capability will enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend its people and protect critical national infrastructure,” the DSCA statement said.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.

Raytheon Missiles and Defense has been selected as the principal contractor.

The short to medium-range, ground-based air defence system has the capacity to fire AMRAAM Extended Range missiles and AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder missiles. The system features an active 3D radar, passive electro-optical and infrared sensor. The standard configuration includes three launchers each with up to six missiles.
