The military vehicles manufacturer has been selected to deliver a fleet of fuel tank trucks to support the nation’s armed forces.
The Bundeswehr has contracted Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles to supply a total of 48 TGS 8x4 fuel tank trucks to be deployed at German Army and Air Force airfields.
The deal, which includes an option to deliver five additional vehicles, follows a competitive tender process.
Delivery of the vehicles is scheduled to commence in July 2023; with the final tranche of vehicles due in 2024.
The contract also includes the provision of fuelling components for the tank build-on, special tools, and a 12-year sustainment period post-delivery.
The TGS 8x4 airfield fuel tank truck has a tank volume of up to 22,000 litres, an advanced filter, and a digitised build-on that can be linked to information systems.
The contract comes just days after Rheinmetall entered into a strategic partnership with European AI technology company Helsing, aimed at developing next-generation software-based land defence capabilities.
This includes identifying opportunities to retrofit existing platforms, providing armed forces with “advanced and future-proof capabilities” to meet evolving warfighting needs.
According to Rheinmetall, the collaboration is a response to emerging challenges in the battlespace, exposed during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This includes the deployment of digitisation and AI-supported mission systems.
As such, Rheinmetall and Helsing have committed to integrating battle-tested components, platforms, systems and software with “modern, military-grade AI capabilities”.
