The new equipment will include complete short-range air defence systems, a Ground Master 200 (GM200) radar, a command-and-control centre, a radio communications system, and air target designators.

The GM200 multi-mission radar protects armed forces from air threats with a “sense and warn” capability. It provides armed forces with launch and impact threat coordinates for multiple, simultaneous threats, and allows forces to seek refuge from detected attacks.

Thales chairman and chief executive officer Patrice Caine said threats must be detected as early as possible whenever and wherever they arise to keep populations and armed forces safe.

“Thales is proud to be playing a part in the protection of Ukraine, in particular by providing air defence systems,” he said.

Surface radars like the GM200 offer an effective response to different types of threats such as drones, cruise missiles, helicopters and combat aircraft.
