Office of Defence Industry Forums are gathering to discuss defence industry provider information in Tasmania and Queensland later this month.

Two previous forums in Perth and Melbourne attracted more than 360 people, according to a statement released by Defence on 8 May. The Hobart forum will be held on 16 May and on 24 May in Brisbane.

The forums are designed to help small-to-medium enterprises connect with prime contractors and Defence industry personnel, and learn about becoming a Defence supplier.

Department of Defence, Australian Industry Capability first assistant secretary and commercial chief counsel, Francesca Rush, said industry representatives can attend to learn more about opportunities in the industry.

“The next two forums in Hobart and Brisbane will have an expert panel of speakers and a range of activities, designed to inform businesses on overcoming challenges and understanding the opportunities in growing their Defence footprint,” Rush said.

“We are pleased to see a record number of attendees across the ODIS Forums and are looking forward to establishing and strengthening our partnership with Australian businesses.”

Strengthening the defence industry was a key topic of discussion by Minister of Defence Industry Pat Conroy at the Defence Connect DSR Summit earlier this month.

That event hosted more than 300 defence industry professionals and company representatives who attended at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney on 3 May.

Minister Conroy said Australia must move towards an attitude of embracing risk from Defence, the defence industry, and politicians.

“We need to embrace risk, we will back you and we are shifting to minimum viable capability,” Minister Conroy said at the event.
