The Australian Defence Force will acquire 84 next-generation Mobile Retransmission Systems from Australian-owned engineering company Luminact in partnership with REDARC Defence & Space.

Luminact will design and manufacture the systems in Australia for delivery to be completed by 2025, after acquisition and support contracts were signed earlier this year on 19 May.

The Mobile Retransmission System (MRS) is a rapidly deployable suite of equipment to enable retransmission and flexible tactical communications in the battlespace. The MRS can be configured by commanders to suit individual mission requirements and provides a range of tactical line-of-sight and beyond line-of sight communications options.

The system includes Primary Retransmission Subsystem, Secondary Communications Subsystem and a bespoke Power Distribution Subsystem with modular, expandable power management technology provided by REDARC.

“We are excited to be partnering with REDARC to delivery this important capability to Army,” said Luminact co-founder and director Andrew Skinner.

“The MRS will provide a flexible and robust deployable communications system for the ADF, and we are proud to be delivering it with a very high level of Australian industry capability content.”

Luminact will also support the MRS in-service for five years.
