The Polish government will acquire Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System and other equipment under a possible US$4 billion foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.

The Polish government will acquire Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System and other equipment under a possible US$4 billion foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) advised the US Congress of the possible foreign military sale for IAMD IBCS enabled Patriot configuration on 11 September.

The possible sale includes 93 IAMD IBCS engagement operation centres, 175 IBCS Integrated Fire Control Network relays, network encryptors, software development and component integration, US government and contractor technical support, flight test infrastructure, equipment, flight test targets, logistics and program support.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a North Atlantic Treaty Organization ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the DSCA statement said.

“The proposed sale will improve Poland’s missile defence capability and contribute to Poland’s goal of updating its military capability while further enhancing interoperability with the United States and other allies.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”

Northrup Grumman would be the principal contractor for the proposed sale and it would require 45 US government or contractor representatives to travel to Poland for equipment deprocessing and fielding, system checkout, training, technical and logistics support.

“We feel great satisfaction that the Polish Armed Forces are developing so dynamically, in the sense of equipping them with modern weapons,” said Polish Minister of National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak.

“Among these agreements that were just now signed, particularly important are those concerning the construction of a multi-layered air and missile defence system.

“We started almost from a scratch … I wish to express my gratitude for the very good cooperation with the United States and the United Kingdom.”
