NSW ballistic protection systems manufacturer Armor Australia has announced it will supply “Light” Torso Protective System to the New Zealand Defence Force.

The initiative is being delivered through Australian Defence Apparel (ADA) following the expansion of their NZDF Wearables Program to include soldier personal protective equipment (SPPE).

The partnership underscores a commitment to providing advanced, lightweight integrated armour systems that enhance operational effectiveness and support NZDF’s mission to equip their soldiers with the best available technology, keeping them at the forefront of military protection and innovation, according to Armor Australia research and development director David Thompson.

“The First Article Testing program for the ’Light’ TPS provided me with the opportunity to spend time at Ballistic & Mechanical Testing Pty Ltd, alongside NZDF representatives, where we physically verified the armour’s protective capabilities," Thompson said

“As closely bonded natural allies, Australia and New Zealand share a deep and enduring friendship. Armor Australia is honoured to provide our trans-Tasman friends with our advanced armour systems.”

The SPPE project marks a significant advancement in enhancing protection and operational efficiency for NZDF personnel, according to ADA.

The equipment supplied includes advanced body armour, helmets and load carriage systems designed to meet the demanding requirements of modern military operations.

ADA New Zealand’s partnership with Spearpoint and Armor Australia has been instrumental, combining tactical gear expertise and cutting-edge armour solutions with ADA’s legacy of quality and innovation in military apparel, according to ADANZ chief executive Chris Dixon.

“We are incredibly excited to see the SPPE project come to fruition. The rollout commenced June 2024. This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting the NZDF with the best possible protection equipment. We believe this will significantly enhance the safety and effectiveness of their personnel in various operational environments.”
