The Australian Defence Force has begun rolling out its newest sidearm with the F9 pistol beginning deployment with an initial unit in Brisbane.
The F9, commercially known as the 9mm SIG P320 X-Carry pro, was reportedly signed over to 7th Brigade at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane, from representatives of NIOA Group earlier this year.
Soldiers have also undertaken test-firing of the pistol at the weapons training facility at Gallipoli Barracks as well as assembly and disassembly training.
“The Australian Defence Force has selected the F9 pistol as its newest sidearm, offering personnel a reliable and efficient option for self-defence and combat situations. Its lightweight design and high-capacity magazine make it a top choice for military use,” Defence said in a statement.
“The 7th Brigade, located at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane, has been selected as the initial unit to receive the F9 pistol.
“Project LAND 300 introduces a suite of new Australian Defence Force close combat weapons systems into service from the end of 2024 to the middle of 2027, including pistols, sniper rifles, a fighting knife and a compact personal defence rifle.
“The rollout of the F9 pistol is set to continue throughout 2025.”
The F9 (with attached reflex sights, white light illuminator) replaces the ADF’s current Browning Mk3 pistol.
