Bravery Trust ambassador Squadron Leader Adon Lumley will tackle 96 kilometres of the world’s most rugged jungle on the Kokoda Trail as he raises funds to support contemporary veterans this Anzac Day.

SQNLDR Lumley and the Kokoda Trail group will climb Mission Ridge and onto Brigade Hill to pay their respects to Australian wartime history and raise funds for Bravery Trust to support contemporary veterans faced with financial hardship.

SQNLDR Lumley, who is currently posted to Space Command - Australian Defence Force, will lead a group of Bravery Trust supporters, pushing themselves to their limits to gain insight into the challenges and sacrifices made by our military forebears to preserve our freedoms.

“Serving our nation through the Australian Defence Force brings with it personal risk, possibly life-threatening risk, both during training and potential deployment.

“For many of my friends and colleagues, the overwhelming support shown by Australians around Anzac Day is incredibly humbling. It is an opportunity for all Australians to nurture the pride and gratitude that underpins the ethos and values of service life.

“Likewise, I am thrilled to meet and support a team of nine volunteers who have taken their commitment one step further – and are prepared to push their bodies to brink to gain an insight into the challenges faced by those who fought in one of Australia’s most brutal and arduous campaigns of the Second World War, while raising funds for those who might need support from Bravery Trust into the future.”

“If we can encourage every serving member to donate $1, we can raise $60,000 for Bravery Trust to provide members with a financial safety net.”

Bravery Trust supports veterans who have been injured or sustained illness during service with direct financial aid in times of hardship, assisting with rent, essential bills or food vouchers. The Bravery Trust model is unique in combining longer-term and specialised financial counselling to build confidence and new skills and help veterans reset their lives.

Anyone able to make a donation, big or small, to support SQNLDR Lumley and the Kokoda Trail team can do so via the Bravery Trust website: kokoda.braverytrust.org.au/sqnldr-adon-lumley

Any veteran facing financial hardship can call 1800 BRAVERY (1800 272 837) or lodge an application for assistance at braverytrust.org.au
