Cubic Defense has announced the successful completion and delivery of its advanced laser-based shoot-back systems to SAFTI City, the world’s largest urban military training facility.
The sophisticated systems, which feature automatic target detection, recognition, and instrumentation, are designed to elevate the realism and effectiveness of urban combat training.
Russell Marsh, president of Cubic Defense, said the milestone project was a collaborative achievement involving expert teams from across the Asia-Pacific region, explaining: “The impressive engineering project was a collaborative effort consisting of teams from across the Asia-Pacific region, all coming together to design, manufacture, deliver, and install a range of advanced training systems for SAFTI City.”
Marsh added: “The live training simulation systems provide world-class training results, ensuring the warfighter of the future is well prepared for the demands of complex, urban environments.”
As part of its delivery, Cubic supplied an advanced computer vision system capable of tracking and autonomously engaging training forces, simulating real-world combat scenarios. The package also included 11,000 sensors, comprising 8,000 building-integrated anchors with ultra-wideband (UWB) indoor tracking capabilities and 3,000 shoot-through-wall modules.
Alicia Combs, vice president and general manager of ground training at Cubic, highlighted the significant enhancements made to both vehicle and soldier tracking instrumentation, saying: “We are extremely proud to have delivered the next evolution of vehicle and soldier tracking instrumentation with new enhancements included.”
“The vehicle instrumentation system now shows crews the direction from which they were hit. The soldier system enables seamless tracking from outdoors to indoors, by using GPS and radio communications outside and pairing with building infrastructure to use ultra-wideband communications indoors.”
The SAFTI City installation brought together personnel from Cubic Defence New Zealand, Cubic Technologies Singapore, and Cubic Defence Australia, demonstrating the company’s unified regional effort to deliver next-generation military training capabilities.
