HIMARS launchers used during Talisman Sabre 2023 have featured in a new “Peace through strength” recruitment advert published by the US Department of Defense.

The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, used by both the US Army and Australian Defence Force, appeared in the new promotional video and were previously fired during a combined joint live-fire demonstration at Shoalwater Bay Training Area in Queensland, Australia during July 2023.

The US DOD military recruitment advertisement was reportedly shown during NASCAR racing in the US and has since accumulated more than 270,000 views since being published online on 26 May this year.

The promotional video features statements from both US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and US President Donald Trump regarding US military strategic direction into the future.

“We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end and perhaps most importantly, by the wars we never get into. It’s called peace through strength,” US President Trump said in the advertisement.

“Through our power and might we will lead the world to peace. Our friends will respect us, our enemies will fear us and the whole world will admire the unrivalled greatness of the United States military.

“We will replenish the pride of our armed forces, end the recruitment crisis. God bless you, God bless our armed forces, God bless our men and women fighting overseas, and God bless the United States of America.”

Drone and missile strike footage was shown during the advert in a major departure from previous recruitment advertising policy.

In addition, US Secretary Hegseth alluded to the end of several past defence programs and policies.

“No more distractions, no more electric tanks, no more gender confusion, no more climate change worship. We are laser-focused on our mission of warfighting,” he said.

“You look into the eyes of these young Americans who are giving the best years of their lives in uniform to serve their nation. They are incredible.

“We don’t fight because we hate what’s in front of us, we fight because we love what’s behind us.”
