Ukraine will acquire additional Bradley infantry fighting vehicles equipment and overhaul support under a US$150 million foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.

Ukraine will acquire additional Bradley infantry fighting vehicles equipment and overhaul support under a US$150 million foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.

The US Congress was notified of the possible foreign military sale to Ukraine by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 23 July.

The potential sale includes equipment and services for the refurbishment of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, technical assistance, training, publications, logistics and program support.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the ability of Ukraine to provide for its own defence,” according to a statement published by the US DSCA.

“The proposed sale will improve Ukraine’s ability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defence and regional security missions. Ukraine has an urgent need to strengthen local sustainment capabilities to maintain high operational rates for United States provided vehicles and weapon systems.

“Improved maintenance, repair, and overhaul capability will directly contribute to battlefield effectiveness through a more resilient and rapid repair cycle that will increase overall operational rates with reduced logistics and financial burdens. Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

“Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Ukraine. There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”

The principal contractors are expected to be BAE Systems, Leonardo DRS and Renk Group AG with all work occurring in Europe.

In a separate US foreign military sale on 23 July, Ukraine has requested for HAWK Phase III Missile System sustainment and related equipment worth $172 million.

The possible sale includes services for the HAWK missile system, HAWK system spare parts, refurbishment and system overhaul of HAWK air defence fire units, five-tonne cargo trucks, test equipment, technical documentation, support equipment and storage containers, MIM-23 HAWK missile spare parts and missile repair.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the ability of Ukraine to provide for its own defence,” according to a statement from the US DSCA.

“This proposed sale will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defence and regional security missions with a more robust air defence capability. Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. Implementation of this proposed sale will require temporary duty travel of an estimated five US government and 15 contractor representatives to Ukraine.

“There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”

The principal contractors will be Sielman Corporation, RTX Corporation and PROJECTXYZ.
