The LAND 40 Phase 2 Light Weight Automatic Grenade Launcher Team has received the Individual Soldiers Systems Branch (ISSB) Outstanding Team Achievement Award.

Land 40 Phase 2, known as the Direct Fire Support Weapon Project, saw the delivery of a Light Weight Automatic Grenade Launcher (LWAGL) capability to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Defence said the Project Office within the Armaments Systems Program Office co-ordinated the delivery and introduction into service of the full capability against an "extremely compressed schedule and under significant public scrutiny, due to previous issues with the project."

The team, led by Queensland arms supplier NIOA, was congratulated by Brigadier David Smith, AM, DSM, director general individual soldier systems - ‎land systems division, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).

"The project team developed extremely effective relationships with all stakeholders particularly the prime contractor, NIOA, and the key customer, Army," BRIG Smith said.

"You have brought great credit upon yourselves, Land Systems Division, Individual Soldier System's Branch and the wider Australian Defence Organisation."

Under the LAND 40 Phase 2 project, NIOA delivered the General Dynamics MK47 40mm LWAGL, fitted with Lightweight Video Sight (LVS2) sighting system. The advanced LVS2 provides a new level of capability for light weapon sighting systems with integrated colour video and thermal imaging.

The contract was valued in excess of $50 million, with approximately $1.1 million delivered by Australian industry.

Robert Nioa, managing director at NIOA, praised the efforts of the entire team in receiving the award.

"Congratulations to the LAND 40 Phase 2 Light Weight Automatic Grenade Launcher project team for winning the coveted ISSB Outstanding Team Achievement Award this year" he said.

"NIOA are pleased to have had the opportunity to support you in the delivery and sustainment of this new capability for Army and to allow you to retire previous project issues.

"Your ability to partner with us as the prime contractor allowed the schedule and risks to be managed in a controlled manner. It was a pleasure working with you all."
