An undisclosed number of Australian Defence Force personnel and equipment have been deployed to support the Victoria Police search for alleged gunman Dezi Freeman.
Freeman allegedly killed two police officers, as they attempted to execute a warrant at a property in Porepunkah, before disappearing into the bushland of north-east Victoria.
Police have confirmed that more than 100 properties have been searched in the Victoria Police operation to find and apprehend Freeman.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush, speaking during a press conference this week, confirmed that the ADF was now involved in the “hunt”.
“We’re also joined by assets from the Australian Defence Force; everyone is leaning into this search because we must resolve it as soon as possible,” he said.
“It’s critical that this concludes soon.
“We’re very thankful for the Defence Force supporting us and this operation, but I’m not at liberty to disclose what that (Defence) support is, at this point.”
Police have previously indicated that there was a “possibility” that Mr Freeman is being hidden from police by friends or associates. They have also indicated that a reward for information is being considered.
