Australian and Indonesian military leadership have met to strengthen defence ties in Jakarta.
Chief of the Australian Army Lieutenant General Simon Andrew Stuart recently met with Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, representing the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia earlier this week on 8 September.
Both leaders reportedly discussed implementation of the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed last year, joint exercises, personnel exchanges and military education collaborations.
“This meeting reflects Indonesia and Australia’s ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia.
“Deputy Defense Minister Donny expressed his appreciation for the visit by the Australian Army Chief of Staff, which he considered further strengthening defence ties between the two countries, particularly as a follow-up to the outcomes of the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue and Defense Ministers’ Meeting in Canberra, Australia, last August.
“Indonesia also expressed its appreciation for Australia’s active participation in the recently concluded Super Garuda Shield 2025 Multilateral Joint Exercise in Indonesia.”
Earlier this week, the Indonesian Minister of Defense also welcomed the arrival of the Thaon di Revel Class offshore patrol vessel, KRI Brawijaya (320), operated by 160 personnel from the Indonesian Navy.
Previously, the inauguration and handover of the ship was carried out at a Fincantieri shipyard in Italy on 2 July this year.
The multi-purpose combat ship has travelled 9,189 nautical miles for 23 days, stopping in several countries, to reach Indonesia.
