The Australian Defence Force has completed live-fire verification of Assegai artillery ammunition near Darwin in the Northern Territory.
Soldiers from 8th/12th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery conducted the validation and live-fire verification trials of the new Assegai artillery ammunition at the Mount Bundey Training Area outside Darwin earlier this month.
The Assegai ammunition system is expected to provide enhanced range, accuracy and lethality for artillery regiments.
“Recently, Australian Army soldiers from the 8/12th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, conducted live-fire verification and validation trials of the new Assegai artillery ammunition system at the Mount Bundey Training Area, NT,” according to a statement from Defence Australia.
“The system also offers artillery regiments improved capability to support brigade operations and deliver combined arms effects on the modern battlefield.
“These trials ensure the Australian Army maintains cutting-edge munitions that strengthen combat effectiveness and operational readiness.”
Australian Army soldiers from 4th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery have previously conducted the first live-fire verification and validation serial of the Land 17 Phase 1C.2 Assegai ammunition.
Those previous trials were held in Queensland at Townsville Field Training Area on 25 and 26 March this year.
