The Malaysian Armed Forces will acquire 18 CAESAR artillery systems under a new contract with European defence industry KNDS and local industrial partner Advanced Defense Systems.

The Malaysian Ministry of Defence contract, announced at Eurosatory 2026 international defence and security exhibition, includes the artillery systems and the granting of a licence providing for technology transfer and the assembly of the systems in Malaysia.

Malaysia would now become the 15th country to acquire the wheeled artillery, with 800 systems already ordered or delivered worldwide.

The self-propelled system offers mobility, rate of fire and accuracy in its category with the ability to fire six rounds in less than one minute at a range of 40 kilometres and relocate in less than two and a half minutes.

“We are particularly proud to support the Malaysian Army through the delivery of world-class artillery systems that meet the highest operational standards,” KNDS France chief executive officer Nicolas Groult said.

“This new milestone in KNDS’ history in Malaysia reflects our determination to support our partners over the long term in developing their defence capabilities and to meet their expectations in terms of industrial localisation.”

Through a program of know-how transfer and advanced industrial localisation with ADS, this contract also aligns with the Malaysian National Defence Industry Policy, which aims to develop an autonomous, sustainable and resilient national defence industry.

The cooperation builds on a milestone in 2018 with the signing of a strategic partnership covering the supply and local assembly of 105LG lightweight towed artillery guns.
