The Department of Defence has selected Systematic to supply the first tranche of the Army’s new Battle Management System.
Systematic’s SitaWare Headquarters system was formally selected and secured by Defence to supply the first delivery of the next-generation Battle Management System (BMS).
The SitaWare system delivers a command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) solution which uses multi-domain capabilities to integrate and share information across a range of combat environments.
The company said this promotes strong interoperability in a battlefield situation and supports practical readiness across the field.
It is operationally proven and currently being utilised by over 50 nations’ defence capability systems, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.
It has also been selected by NATO as the key land operation system.
“The Army needs a warfighting system it can trust, operate and deliver at speed as capability requirements evolve,” said Mark Gainsford, Systematic Australia’s vice-president for business development.
“The Australian Army knows that coalition operations are the foundation of modern warfare, particularly in a deteriorating strategic environment. Being able to fight in that context is essential.
“We have been through a full government approval process, and we are ready to be more broadly used and integrated across the land and joint environment.
“We provide the software but they own it, and they own the data inside it.”
The Australian Army has been trialling the system since 2021 and was used in Australia’s largest military exercise, Exercise Talisman Sabre, to test its operational integration and ease of use.
Systematic said that as Australia continues to identify requirements for modern BMS capabilities, the London-based company has expanded its presence in the country to support the program’s delivery and integration into the Australian Defence Force.
“The Australian Army identified a requirement for a secure and battle-proven system. After five years of use with a consistently strong performance, the system has contributed to the Army’s ongoing consideration of its future battle management capability,” said Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic.
The contract was officially signed in mid-June 2026.
