Lights, Camera, Pine Gap: Tasmanian man faces charges for unauthorised defence facility tour

He was charged by police for allegedly entering a restricted area within a Northern Territory Commonwealth establishment; and allegedly found to be in possession of a camera and photographic equipment.

The Tasmanian man was scheduled to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on August 26 on charges of;

One count of being in a prohibited area namely the Joint Defence Facility at Pine Gap, contrary to section 9(1) of the Defence (Special Undertakings) Act 1952 (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment; and

One count of possessing a camera in a prohibited area namely the Joint Defence Facility at Pine Gap, contrary to section 17(1) of the Defence (Special Undertakings) Act 1952 (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment.
