The federal government has committed in investing $173 million in the delivery of new night-fighting technology for ADF personnel, Defence Minister Linda Reynolds has announced.

Australian subsidiary company Missions Systems Australia has been awarded a $173 million contract to deliver over 5,500 helmet-mounted fused night vision systems to the Australian Defence Force by 2023.
The company — which supports 150 employees nationally, and manages maintenance and distribution facilities across the country — is set to supply personnel with equipment that combines image intensification (night vision) with thermal imaging, with the aim of enhancing visibility and target detection in low or no light situations.
The night vision systems are also expected to support augmented reality enhancements, with location and navigation data built-in to the heads-up display.
“The new fused night vision systems will provide greater survivability to our ADF personnel through increased situational awareness and the ability to detect movement at greater distances,” Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds said.
This latest announcement forms part of the Morrison government’s broader $270 billion investment in defence capability over the next decade.
