The defence and aerospace company has been awarded a tactical communications contract to support the UK Ministry of Defence’s BATCIS program.

The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) has awarded a £150 million ($270 million) Logistic Support Contract (LSC) to Babcock International.
The five-year contract forms part of the MOD’s broader £3.2 billion ($5.7 billion) Battlefield and Tactical Communication Information Systems (BATCIS) program.
The MOD’s program aims to deliver enhanced tactical communications and information systems – including adjacent air and littoral assets and the dismounted close combat soldier – to the British military.
Babcock’s LSC is expected to involve the delivery of an “intelligent digital solution”, designed to provide cost effective, resilient support to the BATCIS program, providing four critical services to the British Armed Forces — inventory management, inventory modelling, information management and technical services.
The firm has also been tasked with facilitating engagement with a network of industry experts and service providers through Babcock Team Connect.
The network is expected to provide “best practice and knowledge-sharing”, in a bid to ensure effective and agile end-to-end supply chain operations across the full life-cycle of the program.
“Being selected to deliver the Morpheus Logistic Support contract reinforces Babcock’s credentials in digital support solutions, industry-wide collaboration and partnership across the spectrum of the Armed Forces,” Babcock Australasia CEO David Ruff said.
“Together with our partners, we will introduce a new level of logistic support that enables the customer to regain sovereignty over their critical communications systems.
“In Australia, we look forward to future opportunities where we can demonstrate how this approach can deliver improved outcomes for Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and the Australian Army.”
Babcock is currently bidding for the Commonwealth government’s LAND 125 Phase 4 contract, which is seeking an industry partner to provide prime vendor services for product acquisition, integration and support to help deliver an Integrated Soldier System (ISS) to the Australian Army.
The firm is facing competition from Safran’s Team SABRE — a consortium featuring BAE Systems and Nova Systems Australia and New Zealand.
