US Marines have continued to arrive in Darwin as part of the 2021 Marine Rotational Force.

US Marines have continued to arrive in Darwin as part of the 2021 Marine Rotational Force.

A new tranche of 300 US Marines from the 10th Marine Rotational Force – Darwin (MRF-D) touched down in the Top End yesterday (15 April), joining a total of approximately 1,400 personnel, which have arrived over the past few months.

The Marines are expected to train alongside the ADF and other regional allies throughout the year, with activities including Exercise Talisman Sabre.

Upon arrival, the Marines are required to commence a 14-day quarantine as precaution against COVID-19.

Defence has revealed that one solider from a previous group has returned a positive result during initial screening.

The Marine was transferred to the NT Centre for National Resilience to undergo confirmatory testing, and will continue to be monitored at the centre while completing the quarantine.

According to Defence, the Marine had no direct contact with the general community, however, close contacts have been sent to isolation as a precaution in accordance with the COVID-19 management plan.

The MRF-D is expected to total 2,200 troops once all groups have arrived in Darwin.
