At the HunterNet Defence Conference I touched on a couple of programs where Hunter-based industries have already had success winning significant elements in support of LAND 121 Phase 3A, which is supplying over 2,000 of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons and nearly 1,800 trailers, and LAND 121 Phase 3B, which is supplying over 2,500 medium and heavy trucks from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia.

LAND 121 Phase 4 will deliver over 1,000 Hawkei protected mobility vehicles - light, and again local industry has a key role to play.
On the horizon is LAND 400 Phase 2, which will deliver a Mounted Combat Reconnaissance capability – this project has short-listed two contenders to take through a risk mitigation activity (RMA) over the next 12 months; BAE Systems and Rheinmetall.
Again there are significant opportunities for industry to join the national supply chain for this project - industry participation will be a key evaluation criteria.
During the RMA, the short listed tenderers will be required to participate in engagement activities throughout Australia, where Australian industry can propose their offerings for value-for-money participation in the tenderer’s acquisition and support supply chains.
All Australian defence industry companies, including those that were previously part of unsuccessful bid teams, will be invited to participate in the RMA industry engagement activities.
Defence, in conjunction with Department of Industry, has developed a staged approach to assist Australian industry to showcase its capabilities to international tenderers. This includes a web-based registration process.
I encourage local defence industry, especially small and medium enterprises that have not already done so, to complete a web-based application form to be included in Australian industry activities on the LAND 400 portal.
