The Sikorsky-built MH-60R Romeo Seahawk provides the Royal Australian Navy with a leading-edge, shipborne anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, command and control, vertical replenishment, and search and rescue capabilities.
An evolution of the venerable S-70 Seahawk helicopter, the Romeo incorporates a suite of advanced digital sensors, multi-mode radar, electronic support measures system, electro-optical/infrared camera, data links, aircraft survivability systems, dipping sonar, and sonobuoys.
The Romeo is equipped with a highly sophisticated combat system designed to employ Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and the Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedo, providing a lethal combination of anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare capabilities.
Australia is expecting to operate a fleet of 36 MH-60R Romeo Seahawk helicopters, following an additional order of 12 helicopters in mid-2022 as part of a AU$2.5 billion foreign military sale acquisition.
