Taylor Bros Marine celebrates business milestone

The Hobart-based marine services provider is celebrating its 85th anniversary.

The Hobart-based marine services provider is celebrating its 85th anniversary.

Founded in 1936, Taylor Bros Marine is marking four generations of providing accommodation solutions for defence, marine and offshore engineering products and services.

The company supported the war time effort in 1942-43, engaging in the construction of three harbour defence and ambulance vessels, and the repair of liberty ships during their visits to the island state.

Taylor Bros has since transitioned to become a key supplier of components for national naval projects, involved in multiple accommodation and fit out projects for both the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy.

These include the fit out of accommodation and insulation on the RAN’s fleet of 12 new Arafura Class offshore patrol vessels (OPV), and supporting the $9 billion SEA 4000 program.

The firm also refitted the galley and laundry areas and is installing new rescue craft davits and ballast water treatment systems on amphibious landing vessel HMAS Choules.

Other activities include work on the Navy’s two Landing Helicopter Dock ships (LHD) and the two new OPVs for the Royal New Zealand Navy, along with support for the Australian Antarctic Division and CSIRO.

The Tasmanian firm also aims to support the Commonwealth government’s $35 billion future frigate program.

“Taylor Bros is a multi-discipline engineering company with a highly skilled, experienced and flexible workforce located in Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney and Henderson, that can manage project delivery from design to completion locally, nationally, internationally and to offshore installations,” commercial director Phillip Taylor said.
