The United Kingdom is requesting Navy Multiband Terminals and equipment under a possible US$200 million foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.

The US Congress was notified of the possible foreign military sale by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 24 November.

The possible foreign military sale includes:

  • 6 Advanced Extremely High Frequency Navy Multiband Terminals (to be added to a previous FMS case of two AEHF NMTs).
  • KGV-136R communications security devices.
  • Communications equipment.
  • Submarine high data rate masts.
  • Integration and test support.
  • Spare and repair parts.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a key NATO ally that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” according to a statement from the US DSCA.

“The proposed sale will improve the United Kingdom’s capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring communications interoperability.

“The United Kingdom will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.

“The UK Royal Navy will install the NMT system aboard Dreadnought submarines to enable AEHF satellite communications to Royal Navy and Minister of Defence shore sites, ships and submarines in a non-contested threat environment.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to the United Kingdom.

“There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”

The principal contractor is expected to be RTX Corporation.
